AGM 2010 CHAIRMANS REPORT
25 January 2010 at Wootton British Legion
Welcome to you all for coming to support our AGM. It gives us the encouragement to carry on. Let me start by saying yet again what close run leagues we have.
Our method of grading teams is correct. Only our human frailties let the system down. Year after year, when it gets to half-way stage, teams seem to assess their progress and decide if they have a change of coming near top or not, that's the time only seven players turn up or a request to postpone a match and even forfeit the game. If all teams played their later matches with the same enthusiasm as their first three games I wonder how different the final table would look.
This is the start of our next half century, the 50th year had mixed success. Our get together at Drayton Golf Club was a pleasant evening only spoiled by the weather. We have still to play the games we promised you, hopefully, it will be quite soon.
Congratulations to all league and competition winners especially to our new Singles Champion, what's his name, you know Brian...
One aspect of our game at the moment is the calling or rather the response to the calling from spectators. It's not good enough, calling is a thankless task at best and when players abuse the caller, for whatever reason, it just lets the game down and shows up the abusers for the bad sportsmen they are. Please, if you recognise yourself in this category stop and think - Am I really that keen to show myself up? Enough said.
A few thank yous, firstly to Paul Stone for keeping our new web site up to date and informative. We are looking to add information and interest this coming year but it needs all of us to take part, thank you Paul. The committee have again worked hard to provide well run competitions, running and organising meetings, and Finals Night. Thank you Terry, James and John. What can I say about our Treasurer and Secretary that has not already been said? So just Thank You Graham, Jean, Claire and now Carl. The one thing about Graham, love him or loathe him, he is the most fair person I know, a stickler for the rules and does not play favourites but will still go out of his way to get the right result. We appreciate it Graham.
Key fobs - if anyone did not receive their anniversary key fob let Graham know.
One last thing....
You know it's good when you hear the wood!
Thank you, this ends my report.
