Newsletter - July 2011 - Issue 05 - Season Half Way

This is the fifth newsletter from the league for 2011! Missed all the others click here!

Competitions have continued to entertain with the Captains/Secretaries and Tom Simmons trophy since the last newsletter and this month we have the Singles (Thu 14th), Fours (Wed 20th) and Red Drive 3's (Thu 21st).

It's the half way point for the season with 9 out of 18 games played and with 54 points to be played for which means even those 10 or 15 points you need to get to the top are possible! And if you need techniques see The Anchorman article on throwing!

If you still have issues around the Section and Handicap system please read the explanation on the website. It's about as fair as we can make but we're open to suggestions (sensible clean publishable ones!).

The Anchorman is a new blog (think of it as an online newspaper column) by one of the league's veteran players. He's already tackled his own position of Anchorman, Competitions, Throwing and this week the most controversial topic of all - CALLING! You can now comment online so if you want to shout - type it out!

AUNT SALLY ON TV!

Remember my request in last months newsletter for history articles for tv? Well, we've been filmed by ITV Productions for a History channel programme called Mud Men with Johnny Vaughan (currently airing series 1 during the morning this week). As the fiming was short notice and during the day I managed to gather a band of players and The Stickmaker to the Fox at Steventon to teach Johnny the history of the game and how to play. We all had a great time and hope the programme with be aired in the autumn or new year - when I know you'll know! So we are still on the search for any evidence of the history of Aunt Sally to provide links to the archeology they do in the programme - please feel free to ask any other Aunt Sally leagues for this as well as it's our chance to put us not only on a UK map but globally with this channel!

Signing on new players can be done with £3 and name, address, signature and previous team played for forwarded to the Secretary at the usual address on the match card. Transfers are not allowed and this is clearly stated in the rules. The only way to do a 'transfer' is to sign on for two teams at the start of the season and whichever team you play for first is the one you have to play for for the rest (you have to pay two sign on fees though!).

(If you want to change any of the rules you need to propose it at the AGM)

DON'T FORGET.....

You know it's good when you hear the wood!

Get your team to sign up to the newsletter! Forward this to your Aunt Sally team mates! We've got 100+ people signed up (and that includes the committee!) - over 800 people played the game this year - pass it on as the Newsletter is the easiest, quickest and cheapest way for us to stay in touch.

Do you want us to stay in touch any other way? Is Twitter good for you? Would a text message be better? Would you want to text your scores in? How do you feel about entering your scores online on the website? Give me your views....
