AGM 2009 Chairman's Report - Mr Graham Barguss

Does that seem 12 months since we last sat here for an AGM?  Blow me, Finals Night seems just a few Fridays ago. Still, forever onward. Another fine season, I truly believe the standard of playing is getting closer with more and more lower section players improving their throws and and the higher echelons quite often posting below par scores, I only have to look at my own progress! If the few winter rumours doing the rounds is correct, the top flight might look remarkably different come Sept.

Congratulations to tall league winners especially The Fox for again coming out on top in a nail biting last few games, also that evergreen stalwart of a competitor for yet again winning the Singles – Martin Sheridan. Playing finals was a success with one or two upsets. One particular match will stay in my memory for many reasons and many years to come.

I’d like to thank Jimmy and Pepe for allowing us to use Dayton Golf Club for our Presentation Evening which went off very well. Special thanks to Mark from Heddleworth for sponsoring our league. During last year I was also asked if we could set up a website on the internet for Aunt Sally to allow the game to thrive. Lucky for me my James is very knowledgeable about such matters. With the professional help of a new Aunt Sally friend they have come up with a site to keep our profile and communication to keep all our players really up to date. Paul Stone has done and indeed continues to improve and update the site, I think you will appreciate in the coming months how interesting the site will be for new and old players. Thank you Paul & James for getting us started. Because of his interest I am going to propose Paul be co-opted on to the Committee as our PR officer.

All this leads on to this being our 50th anniversary. To celebrate we intend to have a social reunion evening at Drayton Golf Club and to invite all past and present players. I have made a few inroads into this but it still needs lots of ideas and input from everyone. I would really like to make it a success, not least to keep the game in the public eye and not tail off because we are in the midst of a country-wide financial crisis. More later.

A few thank you’s to finish. First the Committee, James again for gaining more experience in running the Committee, to Terry for all his running around collecting trophies and being a general dogsbody. You are both very well appreciated and respected throughout the league. Thank You Both.

Of course now we come to Graham here, Jean and Claire with added part timer Carl. Although I say this every year, I cannot emphasise enough of the work these folk get through in a season. Thank You very very much for your total commitment.

In finishing I’d like to welcome all new teams and players into our 2009 season.

This ends my report.
